In April 2023, I had the honor of collaborating with my dear friend Paul Zhao, who wrote the score to this short film. I recorded flute and piccolo for this project, and I have been in love with it since I first saw it. “Bunny to the Moon” was directed by Akira Maynard and Sammy Liu, and was developed at Savannah College of Art and Design. It is a modern adaptation of a Japanese folktale, telling the story of a girl named Aurora who befriends an extraterrestrial bunny while living alone in the forrest. This rendition has earned many accolades, including qualifying as a finalist in the 2023 Rookie Awards, and becoming an official selection for the Asian American International Film Festival. After a successful run through the film festival circuit, it has now been shared to YouTube on December 30, 2024.
"FOCUS" is a project by sound designer Taijee Shavers that showcases his ability take a sound and create something new and exciting. When I was presented with this piece, I found that it resembled "Syrinx" by Claude Debussy in a variety of ways, and was interested in how Taijee was going to transform this written piece into an exploration of sound design. Coupled with Somer's choreography, this piece is captivating throughout, and I am honored to have been a part of this project.
